The termite mushroom is a symbiotic fungus with termites in nature. Termites build ant nests while cultivating mycelium of termite mushroom, forming a common ecosystem. This kind of fungus is originally found in the forests of southern provinces and cities such as Yunnan and Guizhou.

The termite mushroom in such shape is called "Meizhentou" by the local Tengchong people, its meat is concentrated and price is expensive

       The meat of termite mushroom is thick and fat, and is fine with white shredded meat, which tastes sweet and crisp. It contents materials such as amino acids, proteins and fat which are necessary for human body, as well as various vitamins and calcium, phosphorus and riboflavin. The way to eat termite mushroom is various, it can be made into one course, and can be cooked, fried, pickled, mixed, stewed, baked, braised with vegetables, fish and various delicacies, the tastes of steamed termite mushroom or termite mushroom in soups are fresh, and it is the king of the fungus. The termite mushroom is only produced in the southwest, southeast provinces and some areas of Taiwan. Due to its similar internal fiber structure, color and luster with chicken, and the special flavor of chicken when eating, so it is called "Jizong".

        The termite mushroom coexists with termites. The termite population in Qianxinan Prefecture is the largest, with 7 species coexisting with the termite mushroom. Qianxinan Prefecture is located in junction of Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi province, with abundant rainfall, superior natural ecological conditions and very few pollution, it is the main production area of fungus such as termite mushroom with the best quality.

This kind of yellow termite mushroom is the largest species in Tengchong, and its upper part can be as large as pot when spreading out!

The mushroom also grows in Zunyi, Liupanshui and other areas in Guizhou, and the native people calls it “Sanbagu”, because it is said that if you find one, there must be another two nearby. According to old man, you should not speak loudly when picking it, or it will be frighten away, and it grows out in the sunny day after the rain.

       Yunnan Province is known as the plant kingdom because of the special landform of its mountains and the longitude and latitude where it located. Fungi is a special cluster of the plant kingdom, and the termite mushroom is the highest grade among them.
